The Kingdom of Sweden is a state in Northern Europe on the Scandinavian Peninsula. The form of government is a constitutional monarchy. The name of the country comes from the Old Scandinavian Svea and Rige - "Power of the Svei". The capital is Stockholm. Member of the United Nations, the European Union since January 1, 1995, the country that signed the Schengen Agreement. By area (449,964 km²) Sweden ranks third among Western European countries and fifth among all European countries.
