Opis wspólny

Norway is a state in Northern Europe, in the western part of the Scandinavian Peninsula and a large number of adjacent small islands. It borders with Sweden, in the east - with Finland and Russia. It is washed by the Barents Sea in the northeast, the Norwegian Sea in the west and the North Sea in the southwest. The name of the country comes from the Old Norse word Norðrvegr - "way to the north".
Norway is also part of the Svalbard (Svalbard) archipelago, the Jan Mayen Islands and the Bears in the Arctic Ocean. The dependent territory of Norway is the Bouvet Island in the southern Atlantic.
Mainland Norway lies between 58 ° and 72 ° [5] north latitude and 4 ° and 31 ° east longitude. Its territory stretches along a narrow strip (the widest part - less than 420 km) along the northwest coast of the Scandinavian Peninsula and includes all islands, islets and rocks in its territorial waters.
To the east and southeast, Norway borders Sweden (1630 km), Finland (736 km) and Russia (196 km). From the northwest it is washed by the Norwegian Sea, from the northeast by the Barents Sea and from the south by the North Sea. The coastline is 25148 km long.
Some of the islands belonging to this country are at a great distance from the Scandinavian Peninsula:
the Svalbard archipelago (Svalbard and the surrounding islands) in the eastern part of the Norwegian Sea, the sovereignty of which has been internationally recognized since 17 July 1925;
Jan Mayen between the Greenland and Norwegian Seas;
Bouvet Island off the coast of Antarctica;

Сlimate

Located almost entirely in the temperate zone, compared to other land areas located at the same latitudes - the south of Norway is much warmer and more humid due to the large influx of heat from the Norwegian current. The warm current, however, does not penetrate the Strait of Skagerrak, which is sharply affected by the climate of southeastern Norway, at the same time continental air masses from the Baltic can easily penetrate here. Also, masses from higher latitudes, where the Arctic maximum reigns in winter, often penetrate the offshore area. As the surface of Norway abruptly breaks off to the sea and the valleys are extended meridionally, warm air masses cannot penetrate very deep into them, creating a situation where in winter the gradient of lowering temperatures when moving deep into the fjord is greater than when moving north. The height of the Scandinavian Mountains does not allow the passage of air masses to the east of the country, and creates a barrier effect, which, with considerable moisture saturation, causes a large amount of precipitation, both in summer and winter [5].
The influence of the warm current on the country's climate is not due to the direct heating of the oceanic layer of air (the territory of southern Norway is separated from this flow by 300-400 km.), But to the western transfer that brings these heated air masses.
Average January temperatures range from -17 ° C in northern Norway in Karashuk to +1.5 ° C on the southwest coast of the country. July average temperatures are about +7 ° C in the north and about +17 ° C in the south in Oslo.
